Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to 4th Grade! I am delighted to have your child in my class this 2021-2022 school year. I am looking forward to a very successful year! I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your child this year. I love teaching 4th Grade because it is a time where your child is not learning to read but reading to learn! Also, this is the time when scholars are filled with curiosity and wonder regarding how the world works.  During the first week of school, we will be spending the majority of our time helping students get to know one another and becoming comfortable with various classroom routines. One of our main goals is to help students become independent workers and thinkers.

I have high academic expectations for your scholar and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations. I am very pleased to announce that this year our fourth-grade scholars will participate in Mary McLeod Bethune’s Dual Language Program! Our scholars will receive their science and social studies instruction in Spanish.

Also, scholars will participate in D.E. A. R.  time (Drop Everything and Read) for 20 minutes each day. Drop Everything And Read time, better known as DEAR time, is a time regularly set aside for students to "drop everything and read."  DEAR time conveniently accommodates a variety of student interests and ability levels, since each student selects for himself/herself the book(s) he/she wishes to read. 

Fourth grade is a very important year in Math.  Scholars begin a year building on previous knowledge to add and subtract large numbers.  They will learn 2 x 2 multiplication and long division.  Scholars will also add, subtract, and multiply fractions.
