Just prior to the implementation of our Distance Learning program in Spring 2020, I joined the staff at Mary McLeod Bethune as an Instructional Coach. This year I enter my 18th year in public education as an Instructional Coach after working in Baltimore City Schools as an Assistant Principal, Prince George’s County Public Schools as a Science Teacher and Lead Teacher, and Montgomery Public Schools as a Summer School Administrator.
As an elementary Science Teacher and Department Chair, my students improved on the Science standardized assessment yearly by double digits and consistently outperformed students in our demographic group throughout the county. I raised the profile of Science Education in our school, by supporting instruction as I presented professional development, demonstrated lessons, was a Science curriculum writer, administered the county-wide Science content Google site, served as an integral member of the science textbook adoption committee, and participated in multiple learning opportunities for my own edification which in turn helped to improve Science, Math and English/Language Arts instruction. Our school became a center for STEM education and presented cross-disciplinary demonstration lessons to science teachers.
Prior to my years in public education, I worked in the Information Systems field as an Application Engineer with multiple companies in various industries and as a Bank Officer with a local Savings and Loan. Operating in these various positions and industries allowed me to develop skills in communication, positive customer relations, management, staff development, evaluation, and training. I am proficient in Danielson's Framework for Teaching to evaluate and coach teachers and continue to hone my craft in this area. While my previous work experience is varied, I am passionate about supporting teachers, families, and students in their academic pursuits.
On a personal note, I’m a mother of 2 wonderful young women and 3 fur babies, while being married for over 30 years to the love of my life. After graduating from the University of Maryland (GoTerps!) with a degree in Information Systems Management, I later earned a master's degree in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment from Walden University, an additional master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Science from Loyola University of Maryland, and an Administrator Certificate from McDaniel University. Currently, I am completing my doctorate at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Educational Leadership
