Educator Introduction

Hello there Scholars and Families!

I am Ms. Bivins. I will be working with scholars in grades 4-8. This will be my first year joining Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy PCS, however this fall I will be entering my eighth year in the field of education. In 2012, I earned my Bachelors of Arts degree from Bowdoin College Brunswick, ME. My journey since has cemented my passion for service through education. Throughout this time I have served a number of families and their scholars spanning cultural, linguistic and neurological diversity in the District of Columbia. I believe in the power of partnership with all stakeholders. It is essential to every scholar’s success. In my role as an educator I strongly believe that all children are scholars who can, will and have the right to learn. I believe that educators must dutifully create safe, inclusive environments that are accessible to all and celebratory of difference where scholars can be vulnerable enough to take part in and contribute to the process of inquiry and learning while being open to diversity of thought. I feel that educators who are daedalic in wielding knowledge as a tool to meet the social, emotional and educational needs of each individual will sow, reap and inspire scholars who are independent critical thinkers who not only define but represent powerful knowledge; set forth on the path to self- actualization; embody liberation and live out their fullest potential.

More and more each day I am coming to learn that life obliges that we continually rebirth ourselves and a key to unlocking new life is education. Education that enables and empowers us to grow is a practice of freedom, an act of love as well as courage and the step into liberation.

I look forward to partnering with each of you and joining you in your educational journey for the 2020-2021 school year!

Best,

Ms. Bivins
